York der Knöfel
York der Knoefel (*1962 in Potsdam, Germany, † 2010 in Berlin, Germany) was a contemporary artist who worked as an electrician, light board operator at the theatre and in a slaughterhouse before becoming a painter, photographer and video artist. He lived in Berlin, New York and Tokyo. In 1989 Knoefel started to paint neo-expressive pieces, sometimes informal, sometimes figural but always intuitive instead of conceptional paintings.
His work has been exhibited among others at the Goethe-Institut San Francisco, Berlinische Galerie, Kunstverein Düsseldorf, Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, Neues Museum Nürnberg, Museum Morsbroich Leverkusen, Leicester Square London, Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin.
